Your child’s friendly dentist in Sydney

The dentist can seem like a really chilling, scary place for a child. All the weird clinical smells, noisy drills and an unusually dressed dentist. Lumière Dental Centre go that extra step to ensure your child feels completely at home when they come in for a check-up or treatment. Dr Elkhatib is a family friendly doctor and understands why your child may hold apprehension toward the dentist’s office.

Your Childs Oral Hygiene

A proper oral hygiene routine should start as soon as your child’s first tooth comes through. The sooner you start teaching your children what to do when it comes to their oral care, the better chance they will have in keeping it up in adulthood – with a full set of healthy teeth. This helps them become familiar with the surroundings, smells, noises and the dentist.

Children Dental Check–up

Dr Elkhatib will look at the following:

  • How many teeth have erupted and the way in which they are coming through
  • Assessing the development of the jaw and how the teeth are meeting to determine if an over/under bite is likely to form.
  • Health status of the soft tissues inside the mouth; tongue, cheeks, lips and throat
  • General teeth examination; checking for cavities and signs of decay
  • Orthodontics; assessing to see if your child will need orthodontic treatment so you can make an informed decision on how to approach the treatment.

Fissure sealants

Fissure sealants protect your children’s back teeth so that a trip to the dentist for a filling is not needed. Fissure sealants are plastic coatings that protect the tooth from decay on the chewing surfaces. Back teeth are generally prone to decay as they have grooves or fissures that can be quite deep. While you may be enforcing a proper dental hygiene routine, brushing alone is not enough to adequately clean these deep fissures.

Upon a check-up at Lumière Dental Centre, Dr Elkhatib will check your child’s fissure for signs of decay. If signs of decay are approaching or the fissure is relatively deep, a fissure sealant can be applied. This process is an easy, stress free treatment that involves cleaning the fissure then applying the coating. No scary drills or painful needles are needed.

We advise if your child is anxious about their visit to Lumière Dental Centre, to bring along their favourite stuffed animal to help them relax. If your child’s teeth are starting to come through, why not make their first appointment with Dr Elkhatib at Lumière Dental Centre.
