Dental Crowns and Bridges at Lumière Dental Centre

Preventative dentistry is a vital component to keep your teeth healthy and free of decay. Lumière Dental Centre aims to educate their patients so they spend less time in the dental chair and more time living their life to the fullest. However, decay is still a major contributor to tooth loss, gum disease and other oral deficiencies. It is important to take action if you  damage a tooth and the best way to do that is often with either a crown or bridge.

What is a crown?

A dental crown is a porcelain material which acts as a type of ‘cap’ that is placed on a damaged tooth to restore its function and aesthetics. The cap is cemented over the tooth to make it a permanent solution for decayed and damaged teeth by providing a strong structure for the purpose of returning the tooth to its former condition. This treatment is most suitable for people who have snapped, chipped, broken teeth or are subject to a significant amount of decay but still want to keep their damaged tooth.

What is a dental bridge?

A dental bridge is made up of the same material as a crown, but is made up of at least three crowns joined together. This treatment is most suitable for individuals who have lost one of their teeth. The bridge is made from two crowns that are fixed to the teeth on either side of the missing tooth. These crowns hold in place the false tooth that sits in place of the missing tooth; hence the name, bridge.

Crowns or Fillings?

A crown is a necessary appliance when there is not enough remaining tooth structure to support a filling. A crown can completely restore a decayed or fractured tooth to display a proper appearance and functionality. A filling is only suitable for minor cavities.

Crown/Bridge Procedure

The Lumière Dental Centre uses the CEREC CAD-CAM software to capture a three dimensional digital image of your damaged tooth. This is the most accurate imaging programme in the dental industry which provides Dr Elkhatib with a detailed diagnosis of your oral condition. This diagnosis is important to uncover and design the most appropriate treatment plan that will best rectify your dental problems. Lumière Dental Centre understand that your time is valuable which is why Dr Elkhatib only uses the most advanced equipment on his patients so that multiple appointments are not necessary, making the whole experience more convenient for the patient.

If you have a damaged tooth due to injury or decay, it is important you seek help as soon as possible. If left untreated, the problem will only become worse and lead to more significant problems with more significant costings.
