Create your ideal smile with straight, white dental veneers.
Veneers are a versatile treatment used to treat numerous dental problems. When you see someone with a super straight and ultra-white smile, most people would think they’ve spent thousands on orthodontic work and teeth whitening treatments. Chances are it could be a porcelain veneer treatment.
Smile by design
At Lumiere Dental Care we use imaging software to plan your treatment and guide you through the process. Your digital smile design will help show you each stage of the treatment and will even give you a glimpse of your final smile! Patients are able to preview the results before starting the treatment by making a mock up and test drive of the smile before performing the actual procedure.
What are Dental Veneers?
Dental veneers are known under numerous different names; porcelain veneers, dental laminates or just simply, veneers. They are customisable, thin pieces of porcelain that are bonded to the surface of your teeth. The purpose of veneers varies but most commonly they improve the length, size, colour and the overall shape of your teeth, ultimately improving your appearance.
Alternatively, veneers can be made from a resin composite, similar to that which is used in tooth coloured fillings. Porcelain veneers resist staining much more effectively over their resin counterparts, therefore Dr Elkhatib recommends porcelain to his patients given they have sufficient tooth surface. Resin veneers are a lot thinner therefore they require less surface removal but they are considered as a long term temporary solution.
When would I need Dental Veneers?
Veneers were designed to fix a range of problems, including:
- Discolouration of the teeth as a result of root canal treatments, coffee/wine/smoking/medication stains, or larger resin fillings which are now discoloured (either age of filling or teeth around filling changing colour)
- Teeth have been exposed to over-abrasion and are worn down
- Teeth exposed to injury and damage resulting in chipping and/or snapping
- Slightly misaligned teeth or an uneven/irregular shape
- Gapped teeth
The Dental Veneer Procedure
The Lumière Dental Centre veneer process is broken down into three specific steps in order to achieve the best results. No matter if you are undergoing a veneer on one tooth or multiple, each veneer procedure can be done at the same time throughout this process.
Step 1 – The Treatment Plan
The first step is to book a consultation with Dr Elkhatib. In this consultation we will discuss what you want to achieve and a full diagnosis of your dental health. The purpose of this diagnosis is to not only map out the interior of your mouth, but to decide upon whether you are a suitable candidate for veneers. Dr Elkhatib prides himself on delivering a professional service and as part of this his recommendations stem from the care for his patients and their well-being – not doing more treatments. X-rays and impressions may be needed to collect the most accurate mapping of your dental condition.
Step 2 – Preparation
Before veneers can be applied to the surface of your teeth, your teeth must be conditioned to encourage optimal attachment. Dr Elkhatib will remove approximately 0.5 millimetres of your of surface enamel from all designated teeth. This amount is equal to the thickness of the veneer itself. A local anaesthesia may be needed to numb the area prior to the enamel being removed. Throughout this process, Dr Elkhatib will make impressions of the teeth. The laboratory will then take between 1 and 2 weeks to construct the veneers at which point they will be sent back to Lumière Dental Care, ready for placement.
Step 3 – Bonding the Veneers
Prior to the veneer being cemented to the surface of your tooth, Dr Elkhatib will temporarily place the veneers on your teeth to examine their colour, fit and size. Dr Elkhatib will then trim and file the veneers to size in order to achieve the exact shape you require, the shade can be altered by the cement that bonds the veneers to your teeth. Once the veneers are ready for application your teeth will undergo a final clean and etch. Etching roughens the surface of the tooth to allow a stronger bonding ability. Cement will then be spread onto the veneer followed by a lighting appliance that activates the chemicals in the cement, causing it to harden. Once the cement hardening process is complete, any excess cement is removed and your veneers remain in place.
