What should I do in an event of a dental emergency?

If your tooth has fallen out, keep it in a glass of milk or on the inside of your mouth then call Lumière Dental Centre immediately for urgent attention on 02 9264 8720. The quicker you call the better chance you have at saving your tooth.

What is a Dental Implant?

A Dental Implant is an artificial tooth root that is placed into the jawbone that gives the same support of a natural root of a real tooth. Read more about dental implants here.

How long does a Dental Implant take?

This is largely dependent upon the amount of bone, the type of bone and where the Dental Implantis placed. Generally speaking, for simple implant procedures performed on the lower jaw the treatment will take between 3-4 months. For upper jaw Dental Implantprocedures treatment will generally take 6 months and more complex bone grafting treatments can take between 9-12 months. During your treatment planning Dr Elkhatib will be able to give you a better idea of the amount of work and time needed to complete your Dental Implant treatment.

 

Am I suitable for Dental Implant?

This will depend on a number of varying factors. Dr Ahmed Elkhatib will need to assess you overall health to ultimately decide whether you are suitable for Dental Implant

What is a bridge?

A bridge is an appliance that is permanently located in place of a missing tooth. The teeth either side of the missing tooth are shaped down so that a crown can be placed over the top to support a prosthetic tooth in place of the missing tooth.

Is smoking bad for my teeth?

YES – smoking can effect the colour and condition of your teeth and mouth. The truth is you cannot shield your mouth or teeth from smoke inhalation. It is important for everyone to ensure they visit for regular bi-yearly check-ups and is even more important for patients who smoke to ensure their mouth is being cleaned on a regular basis.

What is cosmetic dentistry?

Cosmetic dentistry is a compilation of treatments that help make your teeth look more appealing, which includes teeth whitening and veneers.

Is the veneers procedure painful? Will I need shots of anesthetic?

No, unlike traditional veneers (which would be very painful without shots),veneers might not require anesthesia because there’s minimal to no grinding down of tooth structure in most cases.

How many dental visits are necessary to complete the veneers process?

Only two short dental visits are required. The first is for a consultation, taking your “before” photographs and impressions of your teeth. At the second visit, your veneers are placed. Each visit takes approximately 1 hour.

After my first appointment, how long do I have to wait before I come back for my final appointment to have my GlamSmile veneers put on?

A Usually 4 weeks.

Should I get my teeth cleaned before my second appointment?

If your teeth have not been cleaned within six months you should have a professional cleaning. If you plan ahead, you may be able to schedule both your impressions and a cleaning in one visit.

With veneers can I use my favorite toothpaste? Will I still be able to floss my teeth?

Yes, you will simply brush and floss your veneers just as you would your natural teeth. Proper dental hygiene is essential to maintaining your beautiful veneers. As with natural teeth, you should always try to use low abrasion toothpaste to effectively but gently remove stains, plaque and tartar.

Can I eat foods like nuts, corn on the cob and apples with veneers?

Yes! Remember, veneers look, feel and operate just like natural teeth. You can eat your favorite foods without fear of damaging your veneers.

I would like to close the gap between my front teeth, can veneers work for me?

Yes, a “gap” is called a diastema, and can be successfully and permanently closed with veneers, as long as the gap is not too wide.

I have tried many whitening treatments but they never last long and I’m still unhappy with my tooth color, can veneers be used for permanent tooth whitening?

veneers will whiten severely stained (even tetracycline) and discolored teeth once and for all. veneers offer a truly affordable whitening solution!

My teeth are misaligned, some even overlap. Am I a veneers candidate?

veneers can definitely change the shape, size and alignment of your teeth making them look straighter and more symmetrical. Since every veneer case is unique, your cosmetic dentist will assess your smile and provide you with treatment options specific to your individual needs.

I think I need braces but I don’t want to go through the long, inconvenient and unattractive process. Can I get veneers instead?

In most cases, yes! Your cosmetic dentist will be able to evaluate your teeth and make the final analysis as to whether orthodontics is necessary. In cases where the misalignment is moderate, veneers will change the alignment and the shape of the teeth making them appear straighter and more uniform.

What are veneers made of? And how long are they expected to last?

veneers are made of time-tested, high-quality pure porcelain, the same materials that have been successfully used to make traditional veneers. Many people who got veneers 20 years ago are still enjoying them today with no problems.

If for some reason, I wanted to remove the veneers, is that possible?

Yes, in most cases veneers are reversible so long as they have required minimal underlying tooth preparation. Because in most cases veneers do not require the reduction of healthy, sensitive tooth structure, usually underneath your veneers, your natural teeth are still healthy, strong and intact.
